Patriotic fervour?

Another village plaque and this time for the bizarrely named Liege Cottages, complete with acute accent. Now the question is why call this pair of joined cottages Liege Cottages? Is the name inspired by the German advance through Belgium and some noble rearguard action, skirmish or battle? I've asked a few people and they haven't got a clue why the building has been given this name.
Never mind, we like the diamond lozenge shape and the recessing has kept the type in pristine condition, lovely local bricks too.
We'll put the naming down to patriotic fervour at the horrors of World War 1.
