A Fen Blow

The wind is absolutely howling across the fen and where the ground is not carpeted in growing crops the bare soil is being turned into what is called a 'Fen Blow', a dust storm that is stretching a couple of miles downwind.
The wind speed is so high that even those ace fliers the wood pigeons are struggling to make any headway while the poor old LBJ's have hunkered down in the hedges and dyke sides out of the relentless wind.
We've seen old photographs of Fen Blows where the landscape is shrouded in dust making the visibility like that in a London 'pea soup' fog. Obviously this isn't that bad but when you've driven through it the car has a wonderful matt finish, a little like suede.
Here's hoping the wind exhausts itself tonight and tomorrow dawns calm.
